{"id":12450,"date":"2021-03-15T11:36:32","date_gmt":"2021-03-15T10:36:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alternativa3.newcode.tech\/?p=12450\/"},"modified":"2025-06-30T10:40:39","modified_gmt":"2025-06-30T08:40:39","slug":"world-consumer-rights-day-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alternativa3.newcode.tech\/en\/world-consumer-rights-day-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"World Consumers' Rights Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the occasion of the celebration of the <\/span><b>World Consumers' Rights Day<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On 15 March, Fair Trade organisations want to stress that transparency in the supply chain is fundamental to avoid subhuman working conditions, child labour exploitation or environmental degradation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It should also be noted that the <\/span><b>Fairtrade seals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are currently the only guarantees that ensure compliance with human, labour and environmental rights in the manufacture of products.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Subhuman conditions<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The accident in Tangiers on 8 February, in which 18 women and 8 men died in a clandestine textile workshop, has once again highlighted the <\/span><b>subhuman conditions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> where many of the people who make the products we consume work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition, a report by ILO, UNICEF, OECD and IOM concludes that a significant share of child labour, forced labour and human trafficking takes place in the first links of global supply chains, i.e. in agricultural and commodity extraction activities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Findings that confirm the data on child labour: <\/span><b>7 out of 10 children<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that <\/span><b>work <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">worldwide do so in the <\/span><b>agriculture<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In the cocoa sector alone, more than 2.1 million children in Ghana and C\u00f4te d'Ivoire work in hazardous work.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>The role of Fair Trade organisations in consumer rights<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Faced with realities such as these, Fair Trade organisations remind the consuming public that <\/span><b>their right to know the traceability of products<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and to demand transparency from companies about their manufacturing processes at home and abroad.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the other hand, they recall that <\/span><b>there are alternatives<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> such as Fair Trade, which, through its seals of guarantee, ensures that products have been produced with respect for human, labour and environmental rights.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are currently 5 Fairtrade certifications endorsed as such: Fairtrade, Small Producers' Symbol, Fair for life, Naturland and the World Fair Trade Organization label.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consumption is a political act, by choosing <\/span><b>Fair Trade products<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> we become part of the <\/span><b>solution to the problem<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the poverty and inequality that conventional international trade generates.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Con motivo de la celebraci\u00f3n del D\u00eda Mundial de los Derechos de las personas consumidoras, 15 marzo, las organizaciones de Comercio Justo queremos destacar que la transparencia en la cadena de suministro es fundamental para evitar condiciones laborales infrahumanas, explotaci\u00f3n laboral infantil o la degradaci\u00f3n ambiental.
