AlterNativa3 launches its new project, Naterrato open up the fair trade system to northern countries. It has been five years since the Assembly of the World Fair Trade Organisation took the decision to address this objective, a need that was reinforced in the wake of the pandemic.
The Naterra project allows for the reactivation of the rural economy of agro-ecological social cooperatives, to support the sustainability of traditional agricultural activity and to reverse emigration and depopulation of the rural world.
In the face of recent scandals, consumers in Central Europe are increasingly turning to products produced with respect for local fair trade principles, human and labour rights and the environment.
It is in view of this combination of factors that AlterNativa3, a cooperative based in Terrassa and founded in 1992, decided to join forces with Bionsan.
Bionsan is also a cooperative that adds its 35 years of experience in the production and marketing of local organic products to the project.
The distribution of products is focused on Catalonia, the rest of the country and, above all, internationally.
In this project, therefore, the AlterNativa3's extensive experience in the international marketing of fair trade organic products and the Bionsan's know-how in the production of local productsas well as its relationship with several agro-ecological producers in the territory..
The result is a product line: oils, olives, fermented productsetc., produced in Catalonia with local Fair Trade values, which are distributed throughout Catalonia, the rest of the country and internationally.
In this way, it is possible to promote respectful agricultural production at all stages, as well as labour, social and environmental rights. It also reactivates the economy of small producer groups in the sector and reverses emigration from the rural world.
